The Buell Ulysses

With its 73cu in V-twin with 103hp@6800 rpm, and 84 ft lbs of torque, the XB12XT Ulysses would appear to be more than capable of going any where any time. It has a 5 speed trans with a top speed on 127.9 mph so the highway would not get in it's way and with a 5.9" ground clearance it should have no trouble with off road activity. The Ulysses is another in the line of Adventure Bikes, where the owner can throw in his gear get out there and go, well anywhere.

That said, this is not something I would care for as a "primary" bike. The 4.4 litre tank doesn't quite have the capacity to cruise with the large twins, you can do it, the bike with stay with them, but you will be the bench mark for the early fuel stops. I prefer the big cruiser sit up, stretch your legs out and do the miles. With my knees and legs nowadays I need a large choice of leg positions, riding with my feet below and or behind me is not on my preferred list. I am getting old. I also believe that the little lady would rather have her ass sitting in the queen seat of an Electra Glide over having it balancing on that tampon pad of a rear seat and her legs spread like a frog. You throw her on the back and do four to five hundred miles with her like that and you can be sure you will hear about it.

There are two reasons for me to own an Adventure bike and the "highway to get anywhere" isn't one of the reasons.

Reason one, you live along the borders with Yellowstone, the Rockies, The Black Hills, or any such destination and getting there isn't an issue.
Reason two, you can mount it on the back of an RV and drive it across country to where you want to leave the pavement.

Then I see a use for the bike.

If I was closer to my 20's than I am to my 70's...sure, an Adventure bike. Right now, I can picture the end of a day on one, charlie horse, muscle spasm, muscle cramp....whimper....whimper...
