Dropping dimes, er washers

Early this summer Natalie's Clutch spring broke, I got her one from the dealer then we had to install it. The area it is located is up under the dash inside a frame box. There is now way to really see where it has to go, you work it by feel. If you have ever had to install a spring hook in a hole then stretch it to reach and go around a lever, knows what kind of pain in the ass this can be. There is just not enough room up there to grab the spring with pliers and then stretch it long enough without slipping off the spring. I investigated Google and someone had the idea of inserting dimes in the spring. Simply stretch it out while in a vice and insert the dimes between each coil loop. When you are done the spring is extended long enough so all you have to do is wangle it in, no pulling tension required. Once hooked on, Google said, just depress the pedal and all the dimes will fall out.

Pretty good idea, do you have $10 worth of dimes that you carry with you? Neither did we, so we inserted washers.

It worked well, and when we depressed the pedal, low and behold, washers came falling out all over.

Now three months have gone by, I get a text message, the clutch pedal isn't coming up all the way, she climbed in on her back, reached up inside and fiddled with it.

She now has more washers for her home collection.
