When riding you always want to be aware of what is coming next, look through the turn to see where you want to be. This is not always possible when you are dealing with blind corners. In these cases it is best to know the road, know what the next strip of pavement brings, when you can't do that, you need to ride accordingly. Cruising into a blind corner at speed, when you don't know what is around it or what type of corner it is should be avoided. You should not only be aware of what the road may do, but, what your bike can and will do.
if you are in a corner and going wide, you need to lean more. There is no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Hitting the brakes is a bad move, it changes the dynamics of the bike, slowing forward momentum is transferred to lateral force and stands the bike up. You just went from being in a sweeping corner to going straight.
Below is a group of photos showing why you want to know what the road does.
This bike is dragging it's peg, possibly it's frame, there is no more lean available here.
The brake depressed, forward speed transfers, the bike begins to stand up
Still not stopping and now in a brake induced straight line, the rider is just a passenger
There is only one outcome available.
Everybody's day is ruined.
This happens all over the world a hundred times a day.
Important, on a motorcycle, experienced or not, we cannot relax, sit back and enjoy the ride oblivious. protect yourself, stay aware. If you don't know what the road does next....come off the throttle before you get there.
