Cove Fish Market

One of the Best places in the area to get seafood was Cove Fish market. It was located on route 1 just east of downtown Mystic in Quiambaug. You could buy fresh seafood in the market section or go to the take out window and eat at the picnic tables.

Rick, Bub and myself always looked forward to stopping there. We could devour plates of steamers each. Everything there was great, the Lobsters, Chowder, Clam Cakes (fritters), fish and chips, hot dogs, and burgers. Not to mention Scallops, fried whole belly clams, oysters, crab cakes, fish cakes, everything.

They recently reopened after remodeling, trying to make it a restaurant instead of a seafood market that serves food.

They resurfaced the dining area and installed new picnic tables in one area and tables and chairs in the outside restaurant area.
What was the fish-market is gone, replaced by an inside dining room and bar.

Tree and I went there yesterday for dinner after the funeral. we walked in the restaurant area and stood around, no one there. We walked around to the take out area to see if they were open. A girl inside took our order and after we repeated each item three times she got it down. We walked to that table area and sat down. After a couple minutes the girl came out with the drinks, she then informed us that they only had one order of steamers on hand, Tree took it. The food arrived, after the girl berated  us for sitting where we were sitting, it seems if you order at the window you are supposed to sit at the picnic tables, otherwise you wait to be seated and some one takes your order. I told her we actually went to the dining room first but no one was around to wait on anyone. At this point she said they were short handed and they they were sorry, "but the Coleslaw is excellent".  The steamers (which I stole from Tree's plate) had no flavor, the fritters which were once the best in the area had almost no clams, the Grilled Scallop roll was about 3/4s the size of a hotdog roll did not last long, but she was right, the coleslaw was fantastic.

I probably wont be going back there, definitely not for seafood, so now I have to find someplace else in the area for steamers and fritters. I suppose if I ever am in dire need of coleslaw I may go back, but, I don't think I will ever need coleslaw that bad.
