When....

Phones dialed,
Kids were sent outside to play,
Children could spend all Saturday out on their bikes without parents worrying about where they were.
Gasoline was not an expense anyone really thought about,
Computers were something in movies and had names like Emerac, or Colossus and they took up a building.
There was no such thing as texting, tweeting, Voice mail or e-mail, for that matter there was no E-.
If you weren't home...you weren't home.
There was a mad dash for home when the music or bells started playing.
On a vacation trip there were no movies to keep the kids busy, they looked out the windows.
Car trip games were made of cardboard, maybe with sliding plastic doors.
On long vacation trips Flat tires were expected.
Sunday road trips often meant there was a loaded picnic basket in the car and you ate at a Picnic area.
Picnic tables were everywhere, if there was a brook next to a garage or a store, chances are there was a picnic table or two there.
There was something called penny candy, it cost a penny a piece. You pressed your face against the glass to examine all the containers of various sugar treats and a cashier would actually take the time to pick everything you chose, put it in a bag and ring you up. Often for about a 25 to 50 cent sale.

Every town had a different store for shopping and different restaurants. A chain was something on a bike or a fence.
Gas stations fixed cars.
Everybody knew somebody who owned a garage.
Race cars looked like road cars with numbers
Big Brothers made sure that no one messed with their little brother...except them
