And how was your day?

Mine was...Fantastic, glad you asked.

My day started with trying to find my clothes, We packed a bunch of stuff into plastic containers last night, we packed a bunch of stuff into cabinets last night, even the fridge has stuff you wouldn't normally find in a fridge. All this was done in preparation for bombing the house this morning. So I woke up, showered brushed and all that morning stuff, then went hunting for clothes, somewhere in the plastic containers. Once dressed I shut off the furnace, turned off the gas (to kill pilot lights), sealed up the house, set off the foggers and went off to work.

At noon I went home, opened the windows and aired the house out. I then left to see "my financial adviser , Work has decided to kill the 401 and it is either grab the money and take it up the (well, you know) in penalties and taxes or transfer the funds. We chose the later. From there I headed to the Groton Town Hall Annex for permits to have the garage dropped in. On the way to the annex I had a red Toyota MR2 blast through the red light at the bottom of Fort Hill, he went into a full skid when he saw a motorcycle in front of him, I accelerated out of the way and he took off. I stopped at the garage there and they were already calling the Police. It turns out that MR2 has been driving like an idiot past there all morning. After leaving there I stopped for the permit. Here I found out that all of Southeastern Ct is in a 120mph hurricane wind zone so the building will have to have it's corners screwed down with giant cork screws. No problem. I was also informed that because I have a septic tank instead of city sewer, I have to draw up two site plans, one for the Town and the other for Ledge Light Health.  Go figure.

Leaving there I stopped for a late lunch before heading home to start the post fogging clean up. Once home I turned on the gas and lit the pilots, I threw some items in the dryer and some items in the wash. I then went up stairs to..ah... lets just say I was in the bathroom and I wasn't taking a bath. The water pump was downstairs running away normal as it filled the washer, the trouble was, the washer has a small timer issue. It seems that it can't figure out it has to close the drain when it is filling, and since the water level never reached the fill line the water pump just kept pumping. Once the well was below level the pump lost prime and started screaming, this called for an emergency shut off of the pump. So I spent the next 20 minutes trying to get the prime back.....meanwhile....upstairs....there is something happening I am unaware of.

So I am playing with the prime when I start smelling food cooking, actually is was like steak burning. I checked the dryer and hot water heater to make sure there was no fire issue I then walked up stairs to a house full of smoke and an orange glow from the stove. It turns out that when I lit the pilots I must have inadvertently turned on a burner, this burner was beneath an upside down cast iron skillet. the skillet was glowing, there was fire in the grease trap and smoke everywhere. With the skillet out and the flaming grease extinguished and removed I set upon opening the windows to air out the smoke. I am sitting in smoke, waiting for the well to refill before trying to re-prime the pump.

So I figured I would take a minute to ask...

How was your day?

  1. About time you cleaned that grease trap anyway. What we really want to know is if you had steak for dinner after straightening everything out.
