WWII Did you know

700,000 men from the U.S. First and Ninth Armies launched a major offensive in an attempt to cross the Rhine River into Germany. The Germans did not get a chance to blow the bridge at Remagen.On March 7th the bridge was captured and troops started pouring across. Germany launched V2 rockets to take the bridge out but missed.

Within days, 75,000 Army engineers arrived and began building bridges across to expidite the advance. In the short time of a few days they had constructed 62 bridges. The mass of men and machinery poured across.
