My day started with a healthy breakfast, since the doctor told me I have to eat healthier and lose some weight I have been eating all types of nasty things that grow in the earth instead of walking on it. Today I decided that, my decision yesterday, to pre-buy breakfast , was an excellent move and I enjoyed coffee with a Jalapeno Italian Sausage Pizza.
The travelling day started by having Julie back Jenny out of the shed and down the ramp. I took a couple photos just in case...
She backed it up and brought it down sweet as you would like, action over I set the phone down....
As you may be able to tell from the photo above, it was on the flat ground she ran into trouble. If you look close you maybe able to tell this photo was taken after I picked Jenny up off the ground. Julie came to a stop after backing the bike down the ramp then went ass over tea kettle onto the ground. In the above photo the forward peg is pushed up and the mirror is facing the wrong direction. The look of trepidation on her face is because I told her that sometimes when a motorcycle falls over all the gas runs into the air cleaner and it can explode when you start the bike. (She is blond remember).
We made a stop at the diner for Julie to have breakfast then cruised route 1 through Mystic, and through Groton to 95. We took 95 south through New London where a Rhode Island registered car decided to change lanes into us. A lot of horn and a full lock on the brakes earned the driver Two middle fingers, (Julie actually out-drew me on this), as we past the car in Flanders Julie let fly with another and a verbal barrage of profanity broadside.
We stayed on 95 to Old Saybrook, then up 156 to Bokum road, Cut through the Valley Railroad property then up 154 to Deep River where i stopped to see the train and Julie made a stop in a port-o-let. Back on 154 we ran south to 80 and west on that to route 81, then south into Clinton. We stayed on route 1 through Guilford where we topped off the tank, then just past "The Place" , we grabbed a side road and picked up 146. 146 took us into Branford and Indian Neck where we grabbed Indian Neck Avenue to Maple and 142 back to route 1.
We cruised past Eli's and Brothers and down into East Haven, then the frontage road to Townsend, Farren and Quinnipiac avenue crossing the Quinnipiac river at East Grand then took Ferry under route 91 to route 5. The weather was fantastic, just about everywhere we went it looked to be threatening rain somewhere else but we never caught any of it.
We cruised north on 5 making a short stop on Sackett Point road to dig cigarettes out of the front bag. This was the point where I first learned how much Julie loved the new seat.
We cruised north into Wallingford then hooked a right on 150. We stayed on 150 until it made a 90 degree right at which point we stayed straight using East Center to Scard road. This brought us out on North Branford road. We hooked a left onto Whirlwind Hill rd along Pistapaug pond. This brought us out on 17. We turned left into Durham then 79 to 148. After the long sweeping left then right we made a stop road side for Julie to do some yoga.
We took 148 straight across to Chester where we made a stop for Lunch at the Pattaconk Inn and Bar. Some type of Whole wheat bread turkey veggie sandwich...yeech.
We took the ferry across the Connecticut, then Joshuatown to 156 which we took through Old Lyme and Niantic before cutting up to route 1 in Oswagatchie and east to New London.
As we approached Fog Plain road there was an intense Blue flash ahead on the right, all traffic lights went away. As we came by there was a wire down alongside the road with no apparent reason for it. The traffic light was working ahead at the turn at Avery, but just as we got there it went dark. From there east all intersections were dark, being on the main road we continued along through them with a modicum of caution. As we approached Willets the lights came on in flash mode then resumed normally. must have been a power reroute. We stopped in at Mikes where Julie let Carol (Parts) know exactly what she thinks of the new gator seat. It would appear that the back section of the seat is rather hard on the nether regions.
Back home I showed Julie how to change the seat, she was not happy, "You mean to tell me, I rode all day long, on that hard ass seat, causing certain areas to go numb and others to be in pain, and you could have changed it by removing one bolt!!!"
"Yup"
"What the Hell?" she retorted..
"You dropped her on the ground" my reply...
End of argument
All in all it was a great day, the weather was fine, the ride lasted about eight hours, put some miles on the bike without really going anywhere and as I sit here typing this I am enjoying the last of the Jalapeno Sausage pizza...
Life is good,
