There is a critter in the Animalia Kingdom, part of the Phylum Anthropoda, Subphylum Hexapoda, in the Insecta Class, which the World counts on for it's aid to Agriculture. It is in the Order Hymenoptera, No taxon Anthophila (Apoidea), which belongs to the family Apidae. It is part of the Subfamily Apinae of the tribe Apini and the genus Apis, the Species is Mellifera, Which to make it easier we will call the Western Honey Bee.
I agree that the entire Species Genus route is long winded and complicated but would it be worth killing yourself because it exists.
Well it might be, it would depend on how you interact with them.
There is a section of Brooklyn, yes, that borough in New York City that has a rather substantial Bee keeper population. Bee Keepers keep bees (probably the reason they are called bee keepers). bees make honey, bee keepers extract the honey and sell it. Well these Brooklyn bees stopped making honey, instead what they made was a "Bright Red Gunk". The Gunk was visible in the bees bodies because of the translucent body they have. Concerned, the Keepers had the bees tested, what they found was that the bees showed high contents of Red Dye #40, which by the way is used in making High fructose Corn Syrup. The closest place that used it was Dell's Maraschino Cherries in the Red Hook section. An investigation was held and it was determined that the corn syrup vats move through the plant and then temporarily come to rest outside on the sidewalk where it attracted the bees. Arthur Mondella (Dell's owner) agreed to cover the vats and the problem was solved.
Or was it, you see there had been reports that beneath the Cherry plant was a Marijuana Farm, but there was never enough evidence or proof that there even was a basement to support a warrant.
The police had been there many times but without proper paperwork could never do a full site investigation. Now, having a problem that affects Bees means that there is a safety concern because bees produce a food product, Investigators jumped on the chance to justify a closer onsite inspection due to possible "evidence of illegally dumped syrup". During the investigation the Police pulled on a couple steel bins of shelves and a staircase appeared.... at the bottom of the stairs....2,500 square feet of marijuana farm. Arthur Mondella killed himself.
