Maritime History for You

So, If I said, Maritime History, why are you looking at Trains.

Ah...Good damn question.

You see these trains are passing, or about to pass the Mystic Connecticut train station, that's why.

At one time, the United States became "The World Power". President Roosevelt (Theodore) had the philosophy, Speak Softly and carry a Big Stick". It became known as Big Stick Diplomacy.
Truthfully, as a nation we were cocky, the Speak softly part wasn't really followed. What he did was to let the Big Stick do the talking. Japan at the time was not happy with the U.S. So President Roosevelt developed a plan. The plan allowed the American people the chance to see the Naval power of the Nation gathered together in an awe inspiring site, it also provided a chance for the world to see the American Naval might, and most importantly, it showed the Japanese that the fleet, which was mainly based in the North Atlantic, wasn't stuck in the North Atlantic. The plan, send the fleet to circumnavigate the globe, 20 ports of call, 16 heavy steam powered battleships, painted white with gilded bows, and all their support vessels were sent on their way. The fleet was made up of four squadrons, each having 4 battleships. The Flagship of Squadron #1 was the U.S.S. Connecticut.

So what does this have to do with the Mystic train station?

Have you been...in the station?

That...is Maritime History.
