The Club was suppose to be riding to Narragansett this morning with an AOB of 10am. They may have, I can't say, I was late out of the house at 10:20 so I topped off the tank and headed out, I took 184 to the rotary at Route 2, took 2 then crossed over to 49 and then I-95 north to exit "no clue", last one in Connecticut. I took 216 through Ashaway and South Hopkinton, then route 91 east through Burdickville and Woodville where I got to use the slap yourself on the head hand signal to inform a motorcycle coming the other way of a Cop sitting off the side of Woodville-Alton road. I don't know if it did any good, I'm not sure how many people actually know that is a signal. So either I warned the guy or he just figured there was a moron going by who liked hitting himself. Route 91 took me through Wood River Junction over to Route 112.
For those who have seen it and not may not know, Chariho RI is a school district encompassing three towns, CHArlestown, RIchmond, and HOpkinton. Learning is over.
I followed the rail line by rolling through Shannock then out to route 2, headed east on 2 past the sight of the Great Swamp Fight to Liberty Lane and into Kingston. I was going to take 138 across then either down 108 to Peacedale or out to route 1 and south to Narragansett. But I wasn't sure if the Club was heading to the Coast Guard House, who's food is eh, or Hammerheads where the food is fantastic or some other destination. Instead of riding all over creation I decided to head out on 138, cross the Jamestown and Newport Bridges, head across Aquidneck Island and up to Fall River Mass, then take route 6 east through New Bedford to Wareham and up 395 or 25 to Mansfield and stop at the casino.
I was just about to jump on the last leg of 138 before the bridges when I remembered that Mass is a helmet State and Jenny doesn't carry one. So I ran down along Narragansett Bay to Charlestown and then route 1 to 1A into Weekapaug. I cruised along Misquamicut then back through Westerly to Pawcatuck and route 234. I came up on North Main street about the same time my ass decided it needed a break from the gator seat, around 1:30. I started thinking of my stomach when I remembered someone told me Cove Fish Market and Restaurant had re-opened. I decided Lobster and Steamers would be pretty good, so I headed down route 1 into Quiambaug. I pulled up and noticed the entire place had been revamped, New outside deck, plus a tent area and a sand area with games for kids. What I also noticed was that instead of that seafood and fry-o-lator smell wafting through the air there was a different smell, a outside fire, smokey kind of smell.
Here's a tip, let us pretend you know of a restaurant that was around for years, let's call it Pete's peanut butter fluff stand, then all of a sudden they lock the doors and close. A little over a year later someone has bought it and reopened it. You should tell people "I see someone opened Pete's old place with a restaurant". Don't say "Pete's is open again". Because if I wanted a Flufferutter sandwich and drove down to get one and it turns out it's Tommy's Tuna now, you won't be happy.
Yes, the building that Cove Fish Market was in is open again, but if you want Seafood, "The Dog Watch BBQ" is not the place to get it.
I got back on Jenny and headed to Mystic for some "expensive touristy" seafood.
