With the advent of fast foods,

There was a time when there were a plethora of places to eat at, and as a kid, (back in the old days) that required dressing up. One simply did not go out to a restaurant looking like it was just another day.  many of the restaurants have gone now, even the Diners are disappearing, all being usurped by fast food chains.

Even department stores had counters in them, Woolworth, Grants, Sears.

The corner store sold sandwiches, of course this was back in the day when garages sold gasoline and performed service work.

Along the sides of the roads were farm markets where you could buy fresh veggies. Yes so many of the places to get food have gone away and if you don't live in a city there aren't even street vendors.

Remember street vendors, if you could think of it, they would either make it, cook it, or repair it.

The days of food variety in local areas are gone, if you don't live in a City you aren't buying any fresh local foods. Whether it was American or of an ethic variety they have faded away into the mists of the past.
