Hog Magazine ran a reader survey, they asked where most riders prefer to ride, the highway or the byway. 2% of all Riders preferred highway riding. 24% chose a combination of the two. 74% chose the back roads all the time. Some of the quotes were " The more squiggly the line on the map the better". " Hands down, the back roads, especially back roads with curve ahead signs". Many felt the Back roads are where the riding is, the highways are what you use when you have to.
One person volunteered " Ride the first day of a vacation at Full Throttle in One direction on the Interstate, spend the next 6 days on the back roads heading home".
Here's something I totally agree with,
" Highways are great for getting from point A to point B, but that's not why we ride. No one talks to anyone else at stops on Interstate and the food has the mediocre sameness to it.
The soul of America can only be seen from the blue lines , where the people are friendly, like to talk to strangers, and where there are always unpredictable Adventures".
