Using a disease to fight Cancer

Duke University is experimenting with a disease that has been all but eradicated in today's society. Why re-awaken a vanquished foe, Cancer. Cancer, usually referred to as malignant cells, is more than that, it has been determined that all cancers have a defense system, cloaking. Cancer cells develop a protective shield, what the shield does is cloak the cancer, making it almost invisible to the hosts immune system to find and attack. Duke is working with Polio, re-engineering the disease to work for the immune system. Scientists have been working for years with different diseases to battle cancer, from HIV to Small pox. This strain of polio has been found to, when introduced into a body, attach itself to cancer tumors, this new polio PVS-RIPO breaks down the cancers shield allowing the immune system to find the cancer. It also emits an enzyme that not only kills cancerous cells but helps create healthy ones.
