Want to plan a trip, but absolutely hate google maps?

Try My Scenic Drives

The site is very easy to use, can be saved, updated, changed, shared, and sent to your GPS. You can search local lodging and items of interest.

The site is free, you just have to enter an email address, and a password.

Below is a quick basic instruction, enter your starting location, your end point and whether you want a round trip or not.

In this case I started in Mystic and wrote Deals Gap, for the Tail of the Dragon.

The map will have way points created and added to it.

By clicking update in the lower right corner the route will form.

You can update the ride info by adding desired miles per day, what you will be riding, gas use, etc...

Now you have a route, down and back to Deals Gap

But lets say you want to take an alternate route for part of the trip, you want something more motorcycle. go to the Scenic rides tab, click on it and it will ask you for a State.

I know I want the Blue Ridge while I am in North Carolina, so click the State

An overlay will appear showing the available scenic rides,

On the left side the names appear

By clicking Blue Ridge Parkway, you will receive route information. (based on speed limit)

Now on most sites you would have to drag your route lines where you want them to go and chase the incorrect alterations it makes.

With this site simply click the "Add to Road Trip" button which will open the window below.

Clicking on your existing saved ride automatically links the scenic ride to your ride.

Been on the road awhile, looking for a room?

The map will open a lodging bar to the left with each placed on the map. simply scroll down the list till you see what you want.

by clicking your layers key the map will switch to show end of day positions.

You can also find items of interest, add notes, find side trips and click add them as way points.

The site is very versatile. When you print the route you will receive the map, the route by day, the route by way-point and a map of each day and a breakdown for that day. If you Google World in your computer you can actually take the ride visually.
