The United States of America and Guns

There is a lot of talk in this country about outlawing guns, people forget the Gun is what gave us this country. This was very well understood by the leaders of the time, that is the reason they put "The Right to Bear Arms" in the Constitution. The "Right" (not privilege) was written so as to allow the People to defend themselves against a hostile Government, Foreign or Domestic. Of course Politicians would be happy is the Right did not exist, having a population that is armed, means that the Government "of the People and for the People" can be defended by the people and a Government that becomes self serving instead of "for the people" can be thrown down.

If it wasn't for the gun industry in the Colonies, we most likely would have lost the Revolutionary War. The fact that the Gun Smiths in the Colonies came up with a modification to the weapons that no other country had went a long way to delivering this Nations Freedom.  The British Rifle of the time had an effective range of around 200 meters, the longer barrel of the Americans increased range, but what really did the trick was the fact that the rifles made here had Rifling. Rifling forced the bullet to spin increasing range and accuracy. The combination of the two development meant the Colonial Minuteman had a range of fire double that of the British.
