You ever drive through a town on your bike and instantly you draw the attention of the local Gendarme. You are doing nothing wrong, your bike isn't really loud, you aren't speeding but because you are on a bike, or perhaps it's the colors you wear, you now have their attention.
Such was the case a few years ago when Rick and I were out for a ride to Castle Craig (Just the other side of Meriden off 691). We cruised up 207 picked up route 16 through Colchester and out onto route 66. It was one of those Summer mornings you dream about for a ride, cool in the shade, toasty in the sun. The breeze you create is comfortable without the heat and humidity that can ruin a Summer ride. We cruised into Portland on 66, just after we passed what is F40 Motorsports a Police car passed us going the other way. The officer made a u-turn and started following us. Our plan was to stop at Subway and grab some food to have at the Castle. So we pulled in and slid into a couple parking spots. Right away the cop was behind us in the parking lot, lights on. He asked for Rick's reg and licence and asked where we were going. In plain Rick answering, "Why?"
The cop got all cocky and then pointed out that where ever we were going and who ever we thought we were, "You can't park in a handicap parking spot".
Rick, never losing that soft speaking demeanor said" You can if you have a handicap plate." The Cop looked totally dumbfounded when he saw Ricks reg plate.
No tickets, no more hassle, the Cop got in his car and said, "I didn't know they had handicap plates for motorcycles"
Sometimes it's the little things that make you smile.
