Myrrh and Frankincense.
Gold is still wanted but the other two?
Not so much.
Can you imagine the Lords child being born today?
We brought him a playstation, with Advanced warfare and The Walking Dead games.
Can you imagine giving a child something to do with death on his birthday?
Do you know what those gifts the wisemen brought represented?
Gold: A symbol of Kinship with the Earth.
Frankincense: An incense, as a symbol of deity.
Mrryh: An embalming oil, as a symbol of death.
Gifts for one who was of the earth, a deity, and a sacrifice.
" in which the magi describe their gifts. The last verse includes a summary of the interpretation: "Glorious now behold Him arise/King and God and sacrifice."
This leads me to wonder though if the meanings were later added. The fact that the child was to be sacrificed seems a bit foreshadowing from three guys in a desert, unless they had some divine insight.
There is always the possibility that these gifts were bestowed because of their value at the time and perhaps used as barter to acquire the needs of the family to feed, clothe and raise a child.
I always regard reasons given later on with the benefit of hindsight as a tad dubious
