I am still in the process of fixing up the house, the dining room, well, what was the dining room, has been painted and I am putting Maine Art up. I was looking for pictures of Lobster Boats and Docks and anything dealing with the Bay of Fundy. When I was a kid we used to spend part of the Summers in a small town called Jonesport. Jonesport was a Lobstering community with docks built to accommodate the drastic tide changes. The Cabin was located on Sandy River Beach, and there were two Islands, well actually three islands visible off the deck. The closest, directly in front was Mink Island, There was one further south called Bar Island and an Island across the water called Roque. Roque was large and looked more like a opposite bank of the bay. Being part of the Bay of Fundy the tides went way out and at certain times of the year you could walk to Mink island, Bar Island was available at every low tide.
Anyway, searching for photos, I tripped across this one below...
Which is mounted now on the wall (sorry about the reflections), that Island is Mink Island. In the foreground is a deck and picnic table.
That is my Childhood Deck.
the land mass behind the island is Rourkes Island. (Roque, sometimes also called Rogues)
Low tide meant, digging for sandworms for fishing, digging up steamers, collecting mussels and just playing in the tidal pools.
The other thing this area is know for, because the cold of the ocean water coming back up the bay was Fog, although locally it was referred to as "The Vapors"
Foggy morning at high tide
