While working at the Subaru dealership, I was instructed that two very attractive girls in their 20's were having a problem with their car, I was to drive them to their home, drop them off and bring the car back for service. They were Hot, I was 16....ouch. Now up to this point I had never really driven a standard transmission, I had moved one in the driveway a couple times, but that was it. With the girls in the car I drove them to Westerly RI. With hindsight I should have let them drive but I didn't, I pulled out of the driveway and stalled it. "That's the same thing that happens when we drive it" they informed me. I got it started and bumped my way along down route one, hopping the car with every gear shift, "It does that all the time, shouldn't it shift smoother?" they asked me. "Yes, it should" (I told the truth). I made it to their house, fluffing the car along, bouncing it through the shifts and hopping the car off stop signs and traffic lights. I dropped them at their home and drove back to the shop. My brother (Shop Foreman) asked me on my arrival what I thought the problem was, I told him I knew exactly what the problem was...."They don't know how to drive a car with a standard transmission".
True Story.
