AMC stands for Associated Motor Cycles, it was founded in 1938 and was later incorporated into Norton-Villiers-Triumph. Matchless Motor Cycles was bought and renamed Amalgamated Motor Cycles Ltd. in 1937, in 1937 it became Associated Motor Cycles. AMC was the parent company for Matchless, AJS, Norton, Francis-Barnett, and Sunbeam to name a few.
