So ya wants to be Pirate and sail the seas eh....

A Buccan or Boucan is the Native South American and Caribbean name for a wooden framework or hurdle on which game and fish were slow roasted "smoked" over a fire.

The whites arriving in the area, which because of the locations were usually sailors often of the Privateer or Pirate occupation, adopted this style of cooking. They found it easy to make with no need to carry anything with you, just get the game and fish and cut out the brush to build what you need.

The people using this were given a name because of it, "A person who uses a Buccan"

So technically, these guys here aren't named after Pirates...

They are actually...
                             Barbecuers or smokers

Throw another herring on the boucan.
