A Gift Run, A Bike Down, and a Reason Why Marriage is dangerous

The Club participated the the Annual Gift run to Harkness Park yesterday. Over night had brought rain to a lot of the area, but by 8AM there was just some wet roads, leaves and small branches to deal with. The weather was fairly nice, a little cool but comfortable and grew nicer each moment until around noon.

It was a pretty good turn out by the Club, filling the Dunkin parking lot on Colman Street. We met at 10 AM which may have been a little over zealous in making sure we weren't late for the event seeing as the ride didn't kick off until 1 PM. We headed out of Dunkin and up Colman for a quick stop at Mikes Famous for Breakfast even though quite a few members decided to have breakfast elsewhere, I was in the "The Shack" in Flanders group.
Before leaving to eat, first we had to arrive a Mikes and that is where we had an incident with a member going down.

The entrance to the rear of Mikes had a small patch which appeared to be filled with cold patch, so that no one would ride through it and have an issue someone had placed a metal sign over the spot. Sandwich found this plate which must have been pretty slippery since the bike dived into the ground nose first bending the risers, breaking the mirror, and messing up the front fender. Sandwich on the other hand was driven by Melinda to Backus Hospital, Mike had the bike brought in the shop.

The ride went off without a hitch, most of the Road Guard duty was performed by the local Hog Group in the Flanders rte 156 area. In Waterford the entire area was handled by local co-operation. The Police, Auxiliary, Fire Department, and others had every side road blocked by radio equipped and florescent dressed personnel. The event itself, as usual, was well attended.

Sandwich it turns out, after X-rays, has a broken finger. It appears that, had he been single, no real injury would have been sustained, but being married he was wearing the customary ownership band on his finger. When you go down the bone in your pinkie seems to be softer than that metal band, and while somewhat flexible, bone usually loses when up against metal and a hard place, so...snap, he now has one finger braced and two fingers taped together.

Not so intrepid as The Dark Pinkie

he won't be doing any Left handed Doctor Evil impersonations soon

His photo most likely looked like this

Unless of course it went the other direction.

The Good news is that it was a pinkie, and a simple break, because this would have Sucked
