Splinter
Had breakfast at the diner, while there Pancake sent a text to see what I was up to. I told him, breakfast. Seems the wife had something going on and was kicking him out. I told him to head to the house and we'd figure something out.
I came up with an idea and dropped Hoss a line to see if he was interested. He thought it was a good idea and decided to come along. We were going to go visiting.
Now if you have ridden with me you should have figured out a couple things. First, highways are great if you are actually going somewhere you need to be. Other than that I avoid them like the plague.
Second, I am not a great one for bopping along, I occasionally feel the need for speed, this happens s whenever I am in or on anything with an engine.
Third, I like hills and corners.
That said I took off with the two of them in tow to go visiting, but I also wanted to make a ride of it. We grabbed 234 for the twists, then a back road to 184 for the hills and corners. Up 184 and then up past the Lake in North Stonington. NEEDING MORE CORNERS I cut off and ran through the State Forest. Had a couple great double gear drops and then power climbs. 201 south to another right which took us across 165. Up through Geers Tree farm, out to Jewitt City, a round about loop back to 201. If anyone needs to know, Hell Hollow has been paved recently, rather a let down for me, I was hoping to drag the boys down across the old broken pavement, over the sand pile and up to 49. Past Ekonk and out to Sterling where we grabbed lunch at Weideles. From there it was 14 across to Plainfield, south on 12, through the cut off to 14A. That joined back up with 14. We stopped at Dunkin at 169 but it was under construction so we head down the hill to get coffee at the gas station. Back on 14, a left onto Lisbon rd. then a short hop to our destination. We surprised Karen's son when we pulled in, for that matter we surprised Karen, she thought it was the neighbors truck. We had a nice visit, sat.around discussing guns, the Windham Chapter, and of Course Bub, Rick and Joe. After about an hour her lunch arrived so we headed out. We took 169 to 138 then under the tunnel and down to Norch. (I worked in that town for a year and a half and that is the correct pronunciation). Hoss split off and headed south down 12 while we took a more indirect route slicing the hills and corners down to 2A at Brookside.
The wife had Pancake picking up Pasta at Paul's so we headed there, then over to Mystic where we split up.
Karen mentioned something as we were saying good bye and collecting our hugs. "This is the first time she has had a visit from the Club on bikes since Bub passed".
Is that true?
How long has that been.
It was good to see her.
One other note, I have tried to catch up the the Club a few times in the past when I knew where they were going and have not had much luck doing so, today we ran into Dave's ride twice, first when we stopped for coffee and water on 14, then again as we came back to route 2A in Poquetanock. Try actuality meaning to do that some time.
Here's a note, I am posting this from my phone, I came home turned the computer on and it had a heart attack, it is currently trying to repair itself, so far without much success.
