Question 1:  Where do they go?

Question 2:  Are they really necessary?

Answer question 1: They go in your collection of assorted bolts, in case you find you need them for something.

Answer question 2: If they were truly necessary you would have found out before you got back from your ride. If everything is still running and attached they are most likely redundant hardware.  They fall into the same category as having an odometer and a gas gauge.
