The State has not changed...Acorns, Black walnuts, Chinkapins...
It is still run by squirrels, rats that look nice, running from tree to tree (taxpayers) grabbing every nut (penny) they can find, digging a hole and burying it before running out looking for more. As the trees we ask, where did all the nuts go? Did you see anything come of them? Even the squirrels can't say, they stored so many nuts they can't remember where they were all put, who got the ones that where used and how much of it all just went to rot or wonder.
This is nothing new.
Back in 1976 a few members of a Fire Department got a hold of the Curator of a State school for the deaf. Seems out on the property beat to shit was a former Fire Department pumper. The unit had been donated to the School years before.
The Fire Department members wanted to remove it from the property (it had been being used as a Jungle Jim parked in a sand pile for years), tow it through the up coming 200 year Bicentennial 4th of July Parade as the unit with the most battle scars, then restore it. The head of the school thought it was a good idea and off it went.
(Awaiting towed parade duty)
This is when the Squirrels arrived. the School was a State School, the State was notified of the removal of the unit. The State did not like it. It seems once the State has a Nut stored somewhere, even if is not being used for anything, even if it could be restored, it is and ever shall be a State nut. The Fire Department was told to return it to the property. Seems that according to the red tape, the State just can't give something away to a person or group of people less someone complains. So, a suggestion was made, by a State Office worker, that the FD offer to buy the unit from the State even if only for a dollar. Once again, the answer came down...No, State Property can only be auctioned off, even if the State showed no ownership of said property, so anyone wanting to bid could.
Once and for all though, the Squirrel mentality struck. There would be no Auction, the Nut was State property, and they were not going to go through the trouble of having an auction. So Squirrels being Squirrels, they reburied their nut, literally...
While there was an attempt to see if perhaps the Fire Truck had been donated as a Emergency Fire Fighting protection unit, and had been left unattended and used as a piece of play ground equipment, if there would be a way to retrieve the unit back as in a breach of contract...
There was a new building being built at the site at the time, the swimming pool building. To cut any further hassle regarding said fire truck, it was shoved into the hole, and concreted over. So if anyone ever goes swimming in that pool, remember, beneath the water is a grave, a Seagrave to be exact.
Another Acorn, buried and forgotten, producing...nothing
